Dr Cara – Vet

Cara was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, and studied at Glasgow University Vet School. She has wanted to be a vet as long as she can remember, encouraged by the array of animals her mother kept as she was growing up. Dr Cara qualified with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery degree in 2008, and then worked for a few years in rural mixed practice in the UK before embarking on worldwide trip – this included travelling and volunteering at veterinary charities in India and South East Asia.

Dr Cara arrived in Australia in July 2012, and has been living here ever since. She has worked in a few practices since living in Australia, in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Dr Cara joined the Love That Pet Team in February 2016, and works at the Darlinghurst and North Ryde Campuses as a senior veterinarian.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the variety of this profession – both in the people I meet and the different cases and animals we deal with – we never see the same day twice! Making pets healthy and people happy is the best job satisfaction anyone could hope for.

Do you have any pets of your own?

I have a pet cat called Fritz, and back home in Scotland my Dad is looking after my crazy terrier Mr Pickles.

When you’re not working with animals, what are you doing?

I love to cook, run and go out dancing in my spare moments.

What’s your favourite spot in Sydney?

My favourite spots in Sydney are Newtown for the nightlife, or the Northern beaches for the laid back life.

One interesting fact about you that people probably don’t know?

An interesting fact that people wouldn’t know -tracing back on my family tree to the 18th century, I’m a descendant of the famous Scots author and poet Sir Walter Scott.
